I have it. You have it. And that is not a bad thing.
When I was considering having this bracelet made a few weeks ago, I was hesitant to have the word "power" displayed on my arm for fear of the misunderstanding and judgement of others. After all, being power-hungry is not always seen as a good thing. I was raised to be meek, humble, accepting, and obedient. It was The Way, and I followed it.
As an adult, it has taken me a lot of time and reflection to break out of the "just accept it" mindset. I have often in my life felt powerless, like other people or circumstances beyond my control were driving my life and choosing my direction for me.
Not anymore.
I own my OWN power to direct my life.
I am not powerless. I am not a victim
No longer a victim of my mother's emotional issues.
No longer a victim of religious intolerance.
No longer a victim of domestic violence.
No longer a victim of poverty.
And no longer a victim of obesity.
Whatever your circumstance, you can choose not to be a victim. You are alive. Therefore, at least for today, you are a survivor.
Take back your own power to do WHATEVER it is that YOU want to do with your life. Stop waiting for someone else to change, or for circumstances to just magically "get better." MAKE them better. Make you better. The power is yours.
Happy Birthday Tornado.

Right on! It's all about attitude. We are so often raised to give our power away. Good for you for seizing it back!
You are like my daily dose of empowerment. Thanks! I agree. Every time I feel myself feeling self pity like "he's not paying enough attention to me" or "why can't I lose weight faster?" or whatever whiny thing I have to complain about, I stop myself and say "There is power in this." People don't realize it, but there is no situation you have no power in, even if it's something out of your control, you have power in how you deal with that lack of control. You can become hysterical, lash out, cower, or make a plan of escape. For every "why me?" there's a "why not take control." I'm to the point now where I've given up that little whiny girl who used to feel like everything was done to her, but she had no say in anything (I was raised a good southern girl myself) and when it comes down to it, that helplessness is no benefit, except perhaps to males who want to guide you around. But, when it comes down to it, the woman with her leg trapped under a fallen tree can lay down and die or accept the loss of a leg and the prosthesis and all the other complexities on the road ahead just to have more days of freedom on earth! Great post!
That is awesome! Where did you get it from?
happyfunpants~
I bought it on Etsy from mstarbuck's shop. I think it was $12. It's very lightweight and I am wearing it all the time.
Great message you are putting out there about power. Love it!
Your attitude and mind-set is just infectious Lynn. I've been reading your blog for almost a year and its like WOW... you've really grown. Congratulations. You are inspiring to many.
I look for your uplifting, motivational post each day... more so the last two months. [high five to you]]
I would love to interview you for my blog. Just because I find you so inspiring. Or better yet, you could take some questions from your fellow bloggers and answer them as to how you got here. It woudl be a great post.

One of the most wonderful things we have in this life is the power to choose how we react to a situation. No one can ever take that away from us, even if we are put in less than ideal situations. I'm glad you are now owning your power.
Isn't it funny? The power was always there. We just have to grab it. Great post as usual.
Love the bracelet, love the post... of course!
This is the first time I've left a comment on your site and I freely admit I'm not the greatest at this whole "blogging" thing.
I want to thank you for sharing your obesity journey with us. I've quickly become a fan. I will check back frequently.
Love the bracelet. Mine would say either "discipline","commit" or "first place"
More power to ya!
I think my version is "faith" as even when I'm at wits end I still trust God is in charge no matter if I understand what is going on or not.
People give up power for security. Or worse they don't realize that power comes with responcibility. I think power sometimes makes me nervous, fear slips in... it's heavy duty stuff.

Gold star post!!! It's all about attitude & yes, you have the power!!! I bet your bracelet speaks volumes to quit a few people who need to take their power by the reins!
Word. Love the bracelet, and the message :)
You go, girl!!!
Wow, Lyn!!!! That is very inspirational...and I love the bracelet too. You go, Girl!!!!
I want one of those bracelets. I, too, grew up in that "must be meek" household. Ugh. NO mention of self-power and choices. As always, Lyn, you make me think and, well, empower me.
You are a strong woman and I love you attitude!!!
Attitude is everything....this post is spot-on...I love it...every word. Hope you're having a great weekend. :)
